SeaPerch Team Sails!

Midvale has once again partnered with the United States Navy as part of the national SeaPerch effort to inspire students to pursue STEM careers, and to expose students to naval engineering and science. On Saturday, April 16th, Midvale Elementary participated in the U.S. Navy's STEM SeaPerch competition at Chamblee High School. Teams from all over Atlanta metro presented posters, explained the design of their underwater SeaPerch ROVs (remote operated vehicle), navigated an underwater obstacle course, and completed an orbs challenge, requiring precision in manipulation of the ROV to release and capture balls of different sizes. Mr. Kitchen, STEM Coordinator and Mr. Makkers, STEM instructor, coached the teams to a third place victory in the poster presentation and second place in all divisions for overall combined events. This is the second year in a row that Midvale is the only elementary school from Georgia to qualify for the National SeaPerch competition. We are very proud of our team!
